PhD and postdoc positions at bigQ

We are always looking for excellent students and researchers to join our team, so do not hesitate to contact us to inquire about possible openings.
Who are we?

We are a research group at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) studying quantum information processing, quantum communication and quantum sensing based on quantum optics, quantum optomechanics and diamond physics. Our vision is to generate macroscopic states of light, mechanics and spins to test quantum physics in new regimes and to interrogate disruptive new applications of sensing and information processing. Our main focus is basic research but we also strongly encourage and support innovation and industry partnerships.

Our group comprises around 45 people that include Faculty members, PhD students, postdocs, engineers and an administrator.

Our research center bigQ (Center for Macroscopic Quantum States) is supported by the Danish National Research Foundation with an 8 million Euro grant running until 2024, but we also enjoy significant funding from the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the Villum Foundation, the Innovation Fund Denmark, the Carlsberg Foundation and the Independent Research Fund Denmark.

DTU is a top-modern technical university located in the green city of Lyngby about 20 km north of Copenhagen. DTU has a great reputation and is among one of the highest ranked technical universities in Europe. The experimental facilities and general infrastructure are absolute world-class and the atmosphere is great.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for exceptional physicists, scientists and engineers with extraordinary talents and outstanding drive. We are in particular looking for people with academic excellence and/or with demonstrated outstanding scientific achievements. We also expect that you have an exceptional ability of developing new ideas and of building things that work. What matters the most is your internal drive to make significant and groundbreaking progress.

What do we offer?

  • An opportunity to explore completely new regimes of physics and information, both theoretically and experimentally.

  • An outstanding research group doing research at the absolute forefront of quantum science.

  • A friendly and professional research environment with solid support from supervisors, colleagues, and technical and administrative staff.

  • An opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art laboratory and with smart scientists.

  • Competitive university salaries and tax deduction benefits (for foreign researchers).

  • Support to travel to workshops, conferences and schools.

  • Strong support in career planning for PhD students and postdocs.

What do we expect?

  • You are excited about big challenges, and you very much enjoy solving them.

  • You have an extraordinary drive towards achieving groundbreaking results.
