For Videnskab.dk, the primary Danish-language site for science news and outreach, Ulrich Busk Hoff and Ulrik Lund Andersen have authored a compelling article about one of the classic paradoxes of quantum mechanics, Schrödinger's cat, and its deep connection to the futuristic dream of one day building a powerful computer based on the strange logic of the quantum world. This quest has been fueled by dramatic advances in the ability to accurately control individual quantum objects like atoms and photons within the last couple of decades. These experimental results were rewarded by last year's Nobel Prize in physics to David Wineland and Serge Haroche whose groups have played a leading role in the field. In fact, both groups presented a demonstration of quantum states reminiscent of Schrödinger's cat already in 1996.
