Determining the quantum efficiency of NV defects in bulk diamond

In a recent experiment we have determined the internal quantum efficiency of shallow-implanted Nitrogen-vacancy (NV) defects in a bulk diamond crystal. The experiment involved measurements of the fluorescent decay rates of NV defects under controlled modification of the local density of optical states.
